No prices are published, because every piece is different. Call (410) 857-9353 or send a photo, and David will talk through the job with you. Browse finished pieces first if you want to see the work.

Refinishing and staining

Stripping · Staining · Refinishing

A cloudy, crazed or water-ringed finish comes off, and the bare wood gets a stain chosen for that wood. Stripping, staining and refinishing are the first words on David's list, and a cedar chest and a bedroom set go through the same steps.

Then the finish goes back on coat by coat, so the grain is what you see when the piece comes home.

Furniture repair and restoration

Wood repair · Replacing · Scratches · Cracks

Loose joints, split tops, broken legs and missing parts, in homes and in businesses. David takes a piece apart, reglues it, fills what needs filling and replaces a part in matching wood when one is gone.

The shop does residential and commercial repair and restoration in any kind of wood.

Repairs we take on
Two-door buffet painted soft grey with a dark stained top and black hardware

Painted finishes

Painting · Stripping

Some pieces want colour instead of stain. The old finish is stripped, the surface is primed, and the paint goes on in coats, with the hardware put back on and working.

If you are not sure whether a dresser should be painted or stained, bring it by and talk it through with David first.

Chair caning and chair repair

Chair Caning · Chair repair

A chair takes more abuse than any other piece in the house. Cane seats give out, rungs and spindles work loose, and rockers stop sitting level.

Chair caning and chair repair are both on the list, and a chair that has been reglued and tightened goes back to being a chair you can sit in.

05

Veneer and brass

Veneer · Brass Polishing

Veneer lifts at the edges and blisters when it gets wet. It is reglued, or patched with matched veneer where a piece is missing, rather than sanded through.

The brass comes off the drawers and gets polished on its own: pulls, bails and escutcheons, back bright and back on.

Antiques and heirlooms

Refinishing · Wood repair · Veneer

Tall clocks, pianos, cedar chests and cabinets, often with a bad refinish or a crack repair somebody else botched. Todd McCauslin brought David a clock more than 225 years old with tiger maple in the case, and wrote that it is beautiful again.

Pieces like these get a careful hand, and the original stays wherever it can stay.

Antiques at the shop

Residential and commercial, in any kind of wood

If it’s wood, we can handle it. That is the shop’s own line, and the work on the floor backs it up, from a 1948 Lane cedar chest to a dining room table to a glass-front hutch painted teal.
